Our fourth and final stop in Europe was Prague. We stayed in Prague for three nights and spent our days walking around Old Town and New Town. The hotel we stayed at was in the center of town and within walking distance of everything. We never took any kind of transportation to get around Prague which was nice because it gave us some serious exercise throughout the days while we also got to see different parts of the town.
Prague has this unique charm to it that I’m having a bit of trouble describing… It’s so beautiful but also has this “rough around the edges” kind of feel to it. I loved walking the cobblestoned streets and through random alleyways which always lead to something cool.
Prague is on the top of my must-see cities for any of you who haven’t been!
How we got there:
My husband and I decided to take a bus from Vienna to Prague. The trip itself took about 4 hours. While not the most glamorous form of travel, it was much cheaper than taking the train.
Where we stayed:
The hotel we stayed at in Prague was called Design Hotel Jewel. It is a boutique hotel which features a handful of rooms that all had a different jewel theme. The rooms were cozy, clean and very different than any of the other places we stayed while in Europe. Design Hotel Jewel also had a small restaurant with a bar right downstairs where we would typically have complimentary breakfast and a drink at night (P.s. the cocktails are amazing!).
The location of Design Hotel Jewel was fantastic. Right in the center of Prague and within walking distance of everything!
Every day we would come home to a full pitcher of water infused with fresh fruit, a delicious pastry of some sort, and before bed, they would always leave you a cute bedtime story. What an experience this hotel was!
La Piccola Perla– The food at La Piccola Perla is outstanding and one of the best meals I had throughout our trip to Europe. It was recommended to us by the staff at our hotel and was literally steps away. My husband and I both got a pasta dish and garlic bread to share. Both dishes melted in your mouth and the pasta is made fresh.
One thing to note that I did not like, was that there was a smoking section of the Restaurant, which unfortunately is right when you walk in the front doors. The non-smokers have to go downstairs to eat which didn’t bother me, however, what did bother me was that while waiting for a table, we had to stand in the smoking section. You are better off standing outside or making a reservation which you could do online or through your hotel.
Indian Jewel – Another fantastic meal was had at Indian Jewel where Chris and I both ordered Chicken Tikka Masala. I’m telling you that this was the freshest Indian food I’ve ever had and the ambiance was very relaxing.
Our Favorite Activities:
Prague Castle – Dating back to the 9th century, Prague castle is full of unique history and one of the top tourist attractions in Prague. To get the full experience, it’s recommended that you pay for a guided tour as you will learn in more detail about the castle.
Charles Bridge – One of the most favorite activities for a tourist in Prague is walking across the Charles Bridge. This bridge dates back to the 1300s and crosses the Vltava river. The experience is cool, your pictures will be awesome, but note that there are A LOT of people walking this everyday so be prepared to bump some shoulders.
John Lennon Wall – We visited the John Lennon Wall one of our last days in Europe and it was a great way to end our trip. We loved looking at all of the beautiful graffiti art and reading all of the words and phrases that people wrote.
Another thing I recommend doing is a walking tour around Prague of some sort. It covers a lot and is a great way to see the city on foot. We ended up doing a tour of the old Jewish Ghettos and the Jewish Cemetery.
This is the last of the 4 cities we traveled to while in Europe. This was the trip of a lifetime and I wouldn’t change anything we did at all. I seriously cannot wait to get back and see more of Europe.
